Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is celebrating 30 years on the nation’s highest court. Thomas marked the milestone Thursday during a symposium hosted by the Heritage Foundation, where an annual award named after him is given every October.

The 73-year-old thanked his family and colleagues, but said if anyone deserves credit it’s former President George H.W. Bush who nominated him. The judge also gave special recognition to former U.S. Deputy Attorney General, Larry Silberman for convincing him to become a judge.
