Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) issued an executive order allowing businesses to ignore COVID-19 related mandates. The governor made the announcement at the state Capitol on Thursday, where he said businesses did not have to follow local government regulations if they preferred not to.

Kemp added businesses could not risk another shutdown as they wouldn’t survive. The executive order was intended to allow small businesses the freedom to explore all options on how to proceed with the mandates.

“What I think we need right now and we’ve had for well over a year is consistency with our regulations and our private sector,” he stated. “We’ve seen in the past when they get yanked around up and down like a yo-yo, it creates hardships for them.”

The executive order I signed today will make sure businesses across our state can’t be punished by local governments for trying to make a living, pay their employees, and save their livelihoods.

Kemp went on to encourage people to get the vaccine, but added they would be responsible for their own health.
